The poet John Donne penned: “No man is an island, entire of itself;
every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”
This inescapable connectedness makes the study of interpersonal communications
– communication between two people or a small group –vital. An understanding of the dynamics involved in
such communication will improve our interactions with friends, family, and colleagues.
Through discussions; critical reflection; synthesis of the selected
readings and discourse; group activities; social experiments and observation; and individual assignments; this site will
promote effective communication. We will examine numerous issues, including, bridging cultural differences, empathetic listening,
conflict management, self-esteem and self-concept, perception, and verbal and non-verbal communication.
